Spectrum email IMAP settings

Spectrum kept the mailboxes of every brand it absorbed, so charter.net, bresnan.net and old Roadrunner addresses all still work — and all of them connect to the same server, which is named after none of those brands. The host to type is mobile.charter.net, whatever your address ends with.

Questions

The short answers

Why does the server have "charter" in it?

Charter is the company behind the Spectrum brand. The mail servers were never renamed, so the host stayed mobile.charter.net for all its domains.

Is an app password needed?

No, the mailbox password is used directly.

Which ports?

IMAP 993 and SMTP 587, both encrypted, with authentication switched on for outgoing mail.

I am leaving Spectrum — can I keep the mail?

Move it before the account closes: point the source at mobile.charter.net and the destination at any new mailbox. Messages, folders and dates come across; nothing is deleted at Spectrum.

Find out how big your mailbox is. It costs nothing.

Connect two servers, look at the size and decide. Or take the client and keep everything on your side.
