Sky Mail IMAP settings

Sky's mail hosts carry an extra level in the name that people routinely drop: it is imap.tools.sky.com, not imap.sky.com. Typing the shorter version gives a connection error rather than a password error, which sends the search in the wrong direction.

Questions

The short answers

imap.sky.com or imap.tools.sky.com?

imap.tools.sky.com. The short form is not a real host, and a client pointed at it fails to connect at all.

Is an app password needed?

No, the mailbox password is accepted.

Which ports?

IMAP 993 and SMTP 465, both with SSL/TLS.

Can I keep my Sky mail after leaving Sky?

Only as a copy somewhere else, made while the account is still active. The transfer carries messages, folders, flags and dates to the new mailbox.

Find out how big your mailbox is. It costs nothing.

Connect two servers, look at the size and decide. Or take the client and keep everything on your side.
